There are a number of carpet cleaning products available, not including carpet cleaning machines themselves.
There are various spot cleaners designed to be used alone, meaning without a machine - I use Resolve Carpet Cleaner personally although Oxyclean is another well known brand.
Then there are various cleaning solutions available for carpet cleaning machines - you'll need these whether you own or rent. The labels usually give lots of information as to intended uses as well as capacity, usually measured in square feet. They are available wherever you buy or rent carpet cleaners, including at most hardware stores, grocery stores, and department stores.
You may encounter a dizzying array depending on where you shop. Some people have very specific preferences, but I think most of them are pretty much the same. I do avoid bottom of the barrel ultra cheapies, but tend to use relatively inexpensive ones. Opinions vary a lot here!
You probably need a general cleaning solution as well as a spot cleaner, and perhaps some special purpose solutions, like one that neutralizes odors like urine if you have cats or dogs.
We also have to include things like vacuum cleaners in carpet cleaning products I suppose, but that's an entirely different topic.
